Philanthropy.
Trainee philanthropists
We are early in our philanthropic journey — and we're honest about that. We don't claim to have all the answers, but we are committed to contributing in ways that are thoughtful, evidence-led, and genuinely useful. What we believe: that we and our business has an obligation to give back to the communities it operates in and the world it benefits from, and that the most effective giving starts with listening.
Room to Reward
Volunteers are the invisible infrastructure of communities across the UK — giving thousands of hours without recognition or reward. Room to Reward exists to change that. As a partner, Tallentire Hall donates unsold rooms so that registered charities and community groups can nominate their most dedicated volunteers for a break they would never take for themselves. We provide the space; the charities provide the stories. It is, quite simply, the best use of an empty room.
Talent Discovery — Unlocking Hidden Potential
We are developing a structured programme with one of the world's largest and oldest high-IQ societies to identify and nurture exceptional cognitive talent in children from disadvantaged communities across Northern England. The focus is on raw reasoning ability — the kind that standard attainment metrics routinely miss. The goal is straightforward: find the children that the system has overlooked, and help them develop their genius potential.
Lake District Wellbeing Institute
The Lake District Wellbeing Institute has been founded to build an evidence base for nature-led and heritage-led wellbeing interventions. Working with leading UK universities and nature organisations, the Institute will collect, analyses, and openly publish data on the relationship between historic environments, natural landscapes, and human health outcomes — our goal is to contribute to the growing body of research on green social prescribing, heritage capital, and the science of restoration.
The Canine Insight Observatory
Dogs are important to the wellbeing of many of us. Working with leading researchers and professionals in canine cognition, we are exploring through nature immersion what this actually means for a dog — behaviourally, cognitively, and in terms of the bond between dog and owner. Tallentire Hall will provide a consistent, controlled environment with repeat visitors across seasons: a setting that lends itself to the kind of longitudinal observation that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
